The troponin complex, along with tropomyosin, is responsible for the calcium-dependent reg µLation of striated muscle contraction. Mouse studies show that this component is also present in vasc µLar smooth muscle and may play a role in reg µLation of smooth muscle function. It consists of three subunits, troponin I (TnI), troponin T (TnT) and troponin C (TnC). Each subunit is responsible for part of troponin complex function.
