Background : Voltage-gated potassium channel that mediates transmembrane potassium transport in excitable membranes. Forms tetrameric potassium-selective channels thro µgh which potassium ions pass in accordance with their electrochemical gradient (PubMed : 2347305, PubMed : 14575698). The channel alternates between opened and closed conformations in response to the voltage difference across the membrane (PubMed : 2347305, PubMed : 14575698). Can form functional homotetrameric channels and heterotetrameric channels that contain variable proportions of KCNA1 KCNA2, KCNA4, KCNA6, and possibly other family members as well; channel properties depend on the type of alpha subunits that are part of the channel. Channel properties are mod µLated by cytoplasmic beta subunits that reg µLate the subcell µLar location of the alpha subunits and promote rapid inactivation. Homotetrameric channels display rapid activation and slow inactivation (PubMed : 2347305).

Background : Catalytic subunit of the NuA4 histone acetyltransferase complex which is involved in transcriptional activation of select genes principally by acetylation of nucleosomal histones H4 and H2A. This modification may both alter nucleosome-DNA interactions and promote interaction of the modified histones with other proteins which positively reg µLate transcription.
